A home for things worth building

James Guan

Engineer. Maker. Builder.

Customer-obsessed, data-oriented, and happiest when an idea becomes something you can ship — or hold.

A few phrases I actually mean.

Customer obsession, data over vibes, and the rest of the toolkit — without the poster-board energy.

Customer obsession

Start with the human on the other side of the screen — then reverse-engineer the system.

Data over vibes

Opinions are cheap. Metrics, traces, and a nasty reproduction are how truth shows up.

Own the outcome

If it shipped with my name on it, I stay curious when it breaks at 2am.

Bias for building

A small, working thing beats a perfect slide deck. Prototype, measure, iterate.

Simple scales

Complexity is a tax. Pay it only when the customer actually needs the feature.

Always be calibrating

Whether it is a console launch or a filament profile — tune until the result is boringly reliable.

Willing to engineer — in code and in filament.

Different surfaces. One standard: make something that holds up.

01

Software engineering

Product UIs, AWS networking consoles, and systems that have to work under real load — measured, observed, and built for the people who depend on them.

02

3D printing

Filament profiles, print tuning, and designs that leave the slicer and hit the build plate. Published as GhostOfRazgriz on MakerWorld.

03

Building in public

Side projects, personal git, and tools I actually use. If it is worth making, it is worth finishing — and worth learning from.
